How it All Began

I have always had a love for animals, especially dogs, having always had dogs growing up.  I found myself married with three wonderful boys, but one of whom was allergic to dogs.  So began the search for a family-friendly, allergy-friendly dog to complete our family.  I researched several breeds that fit the bill of allergy-friendly, but there was something about each breed that just didn’t quite fit.  During all of my research, I kept coming back to the Australian Labradoodle.  I absolutely fell in love with the breed!  I was especially impressed with the breed’s tendency towards service and therapy work.  It wasn’t long after getting our first puppy, Big Rock’s Gingersnap, that I knew I had to have a second one!  #canthavejustone

With a lot of consideration and research and soul searching, I decided that, although being a wife and mother was very fulfilling, I wanted something for myself.  I wanted to live my life doing something that I could be truly passionate about, totally invested in and I decided what better way to fill my time and my heart, than by creating a breeding program and becoming active with the Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA).

The breeding program was slow to start, but I had so much to learn.  Now our doodle family is growing by leaps and bounds!

In 2017 Big Rock Labradoodles grew to include a second location in Spruce Grove, AB under the care of our niece, Andrea Rowe, and her husband Christian.  Andrea and Christian make up the team up at Big Rock North.  We found that we were serving so many families from Grand Prairie, Fort McMurray and each of Northern British Columbia and Saskatchewan, that having a few litters per year up near Edmonton would really benefit our Northern families.  Big Rock North is very much an extension of Big Rock Labradoodles and Andrea and Christian do all the same things with their dogs and puppies that we do here, ensuring that regardless which location your puppy comes from, it will be a Wonderful Woofie!

A little about Andrea & Christian

​

We brought home my first dog, Christy, when I was seven years old. We played dress-up, held talent shows, and even started a pet photography business. Christy had the best intuition and always knew when I needed a cuddle or someone to dance with. She truly was my best friend and is the reason I have such a passion for animals today. Since the age of thirteen, I have worked with animals in numerous settings including a pet boarding kennel, grooming salon, pet store, veterinary clinic, and laboratory. My studies at the University of Alberta further strengthened my knowledge in the field and I graduated with a B.Sc. Specialization in Animal Biology in 2014. When Alana approached me about becoming an associate breeder for Big Rock Labradoodles, I couldn’t turn down the amazing opportunity to spend my days working with puppies and be my own boss! My husband Christian and I live in Spruce Grove, Alberta, and have a busy household two children and, of course, our three adorable doodles Mabry, Leia, and Pancakes. We have fallen in love with the breed can’t wait to share these silly, loving dogs with you!

As Big Rock Labradoodles and Big Rock North are, together, a family-owned & operated Australian Labradoodle breeder, we all work together to raise your new puppy, from the time they are born to the time they go home with you.  We pay lots of attention to their ears, paws, mouths and tails, in order to get them accustomed to the attention of children and the demands of a groomer or veterinarian.  We raise them right in our home so that they are used to everyday noises, like children running and screaming, dishes banging, vacuum cleaners and doors slamming.  By the time you take your new Wonderful Woofie home, he or she will be well socialized, desensitized to everyday goings-on and VERY well cuddled and loved!
